Crochet Leaf Earrings

Crochet leaf earrings. Just like the title says.

Crochet leaf earrings. Just like the title says.

It`s that time again! I`m back in school full time and working in the ER so you know what that means………I`m making a bunch of totally necessary earrings when I should be working on a paper! This time, some very simple crochet leaf earrings. After making them in this very pale leaf green, I realized that they would be much cuter in an antique gold but I just didn`t have time to redo – I`ve got a paper to work on people, remember?!

Want a little pair for your very own? No, I will not send these to you! Here`s how you can make them (if you don`t know how to crochet then A) it`s sort of odd that you chose to view a tutorial for how to crochet leaf earrings, no? and B) learn already! It`s so easy. I taught myself not quite a year ago via the seven billion YouTube videos there are. I didn`t watch all 7 billion, just half of them.)

Ok, now down to business….

You will need:

DC embroidery thread

2mm crochet hook

ear wires x 2

needle nose pliers

*optional: fabric stiffener or DIY stiffener made from equal parts water and Elmer`s school glue

I`m a visual learner.

Gather these things, just so.

Step 1: make the leaves, duh. Here`s the pattern. Confusing? Message me and I`ll try to help!

chain 10

Side 1: 3 dc in fourth st from hook, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in last st, ch 2, sl st in 2 st from hook (picot point made)
Side 2: working down the other side of your starting chain, sl st in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 3 sts,  3 dc in next st, join with sl st to top of your beginning ch 3 – don`t fasten off.

Stem: chain 6, sl st in 4th st from hook and in next 2 sts, sl st to bottom of the leaf – don`t fasten off. You will now have this…

Do you? Do you have this? Great! Onwards and upwards!

Veining: with one loop left on your hook, insert hook through the front of the leaf, pull a loop out and slip stitch  (see pic).

Is this making sense?

Is this making sense?

Continue up the centre of the leaf, inserting hook through leaf, front to back, pulling through a loop and slip stitching. When you reach the point of the leaf, pull a loop through, slip stitch and cut off – your thread will be coming out the front of your leaf. Pull this thread through to the back of the leaf and tie off with your original tail from your foundation chain. Weave in ends.

** at this point, I soaked my leaves in a little DIY fabric stiffener and let them dry for a few hours. I like them to be a bit more stiff but it does take the shine off the thread. You go ahead and do what ever your little heart desires, I`m not likely to know about it. Or to care, really.

Step 2: (step 1 was actually a lot of steps, really. It gets easier now, promise) – open the loops on your earrings and attach leaf by inserting earring loop through the top of the stem.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2! Unless you want to rock the one leaf earring look, which is super cool too.

cute, non?
